Corona… It affects us all one way or another. It’s still the talk of every town and I don’t imagine that will change for some time to come…
A while back, I wrote a blog about working from home. The entire situation was new at that point, and we were simply coping as best we could. It took a while to acclimatise, but we gradually developed a new routine, and working together remotely began to take shape. We all put our shoulders to the grindstone to get through this challenge.
Many things have changed within a short period of time, and that is unfortunately very apparent in the world of advertising. Events have been cancelled and many companies are struggling. Nobody knows how long it will last, and that makes the future very uncertain for many of us. The world of advertising is an unpredictable and uncertain place at the best of times, but now it’s simply anybody’s guess.
I too was informed that unfortunately, because of all the circumstances, I could no longer work at Mooi Creatie.
It has been a brief period in which I learned a great deal about a profession of which I previously knew next to nothing. I spent 12.5 years in fashion. I was responsible for the styling and shop window dressing, and switched from a physical job to an office job. I’d expected that to be a considerable transition, but nothing was further from the truth. Welcomed with open arms, I was wrapped in a warm blanket, how fantastic is that?
Besides working at Mooi Creatie, I had also set up shop with 2 former colleagues, on a hobby basis. There too, corona threw a spanner in the works, delaying our planned April opening until the end of May. Yet now, we are being warmly welcomed as new entrepreneurs, and all the reactions are enthusiastic and positive.
Taking the plunge…. That pretty much sums up this past year for me.
I ended up at Mooi Creatie as the result of an open application in the form of a spontaneous, brief email. That era has now unfortunately come to an end. How fantastic would it be if I could turn this situation to my advantage?
Dreams may come true, and maybe the coronavirus will provide me with the opportunity to actually realise them.
New rounds, new opportunities, identifying the possibilities and making a fresh start. That is what I plan to do. I aim to extend the shop with styling advice and to go back to the profession in which I have many years of experience, in styling shops and their window displays. Hopefully, that will make the wait to get into the shop a little more fun!!!
Life is one big party, all you need to do is hang up your own decorations!
